Saturday saw Portsmouth Force travel up the M3 to face Bracknell Cobras, determined to halt their recent run of two consecutive defeats. Backed by the passionate Force Ultra Fans—who appeared to outnumber the home support—Force started strong, dominating the opening quarter. Their high-intensity defence and well-executed offensive plays quickly built a double-figure lead. Force used their depth to rotate players effectively, maintaining relentless pressure on Cobras and closing the first quarter with a commanding 29-14 advantage.
In the second quarter, the Cobras began to fight back. Although they never managed to cut into Force’s lead, their improved teamwork on the offensive end allowed them to match Force basket for basket. While Force still extended its lead going into halftime, it was by just three additional points, making it 50-32 at the break.
Cobras’ coach made crucial tactical adjustments at half-time, and they were evident in the third quarter. The home team came out with renewed energy, striking back hard. A thunderous dunk midway through the quarter ignited both the Cobra players and their fans, boosting their confidence. This renewed belief translated into increased defensive intensity, restricting Force to just 14 points while Cobras put up 22 of their own. By the end of the quarter, the deficit had been reduced to 64-54, setting up a tense final period.
Force was desperate to avoid a third straight defeat, so it refused to let its lead slip below double digits. Rising to the challenge, it turned up the effort once again in the fourth quarter, extending its advantage by another three points and securing a well-earned 83-70 victory.
A special thank you to the travelling Force fans, whose energy turned this away game into what felt like a home-court atmosphere. Hopefully, the journey home felt far better than in recent weeks—onward and upward!
